UPL Limited (“UPL”) has announced the completion of its acquisition of Arysta LifeScience Inc. (“Arysta”) from Platform Specialty Products for US$4.2 billion. The completion of the transaction, which was signed in July 2018, marks a major step in the history of UPL. The acquisition further strengthens UPL’s position as a global leader in agricultural solutions, with approximately US$5 billion in combined sales and EBITDA of around US$1 billion.

In pursuit of its long-term vision to be a world leader in the global food network, UPL also launched its new purpose, called ‘OpenAg’. It stands for open-minded, win-win partnerships; broadening the space to create value across a wider food production network.​

Platform Specialty Products Corporation announced that it has agreed to sell Arysta LifeScience, its Agricultural Solutions segment, to UPL Corporation Ltd. The deal will create a new Ag powerhouse which is expected to become the fifth largest crop protection company in the world. Together, UPL and Arysta will form a new solution-oriented company with complete offerings in a wide range of crops. We expect this transaction to close in late 2018 or early 2019.

We are pleased to announce the winners of the Etec Crop Solutions Lincoln University Scholarship. They are Robbie Wigley (left) and Josh Kirk. Robbie Wigley is currently doing his Honours year in a Batchelor AgScience. He has previously worked on farms and studied (Ag University) in Ireland. Robbie is keen to work in the arable industry and is looking for a job as a rep or agronomist in the Canterbury area for next year. Josh Kirk is in his 3rd year Batchelor of Commerce (Agriculture) and is looking forward to a career that will allow him to work closely with farmers to aid them to achieve the best out of their soil and plant resources.

We are pleased to announce the winners of the Etec Crop Solutions Lincoln University Scholarship are Luke Palmer (far left), Paige Abernethy and Lachlan Wood. Luke is from Canterbury and studying towards a Bachelor of Commerce (Agriculture). He is passionate about arable farming and is considering a career in the rural banking or farm consulting sectors. Paige is studying a Bachelor of Agricultural Science (Honours). She has a particular interest in soil management and practices that can lead to more sustainable farming. Once graduated she intends to pursue a career in agronomy. Lachlan is from Southland and studying towards a Bachelor of Agricultural Science (Honours). His work experience to date has seen him in a variety of roles and locations, from a general farm hand in the North Island, to a Western Australian cropping/farming operation. Once graduated he wants to pursue a career in either agronomy or the rural banking sector.

Jan is from Canterbury and is in his second year studying towards a Bachelor of Agricultural Science. Since finishing High School he has travelled internationally and is passionate about food production and sharing new science opportunities with farmers. Paige is from Invercargill and is in her first year studying towards a Bachelor of Agricultural Science. She is excited about the opportunities within the dairy industry and in particular cow nutrition. In the future she hopes to give back to the industry as a dairy farm consultant.

Jess is a third year student who is studying towards a Bachelor of Agricultural Science and is from the Catlins in Otago. Her family run a 3,000 acre Sheep, Beef and Forestry farm in Owaka. Julia is a first year student also studying towards a Bachelor of Agricultural Science. Julia grew up in the Marlborough region where her family are involved in agriculture and have a heli-spraying business.

Flute is a new innovative fungicide to help grape growers in the battle against powdery mildew. This past 2017/2018 season Etec Crop Solutions partnered a new innovation in transportation, the UBCO 2 X 2 off-road electric bike with its Flute fungicide. All grape growers who purchased Flute had the opportunity to go in to a prize draw to win an UBCO 2 X 2 off-road electric farm bike.  Etec is pleased to announce that Brett Woodwiss who owns Marama Vineyard in Nelson was the successful prize draw winner.

Etec recently commissioned an independent comparative study with PPCNZ to test the difference between some of the adjuvants used with Sulphur in the grape industry. These were lined up on a single leaf to demonstrate the spread area on a ‘hard to wet surface’ which simulates the underside of a grape leaf or a bunch.
